[Missions are stupid. They're harrowing and dangerous and only ever give volunteers a glimpse into the world outside the Luceti compound. And Robin's spent a month working in one, providing services for evil people and feeling dirty the entire time.

So naturally there's an experiment when he gets back. Because of course there's an experiment. It's hard to research current events with all the chaos happening everywhere, leaving Robin feeling painfully uninformed in terms of his usual ~~stalking~~ accuracy.

It's customary for Robin to filter things when he uses the journal. It's a tool of their captors, and important to keep as low of a profile as possible when utilizing its services. The problem he hasn't quite realized yet is that the journal has helpfully autocorrected the spelling in his proper names, effectively breaking the filters and leaving his messages open for all to see. It's annoying and something he's having difficulty fixing. How nice to be back in Luceti.]

[....Okay, that didn't go well at all. He'll huff and try to make a beeline for Community House 5 instead, sidestepping the chaos overtaking most of town. He might get sidetracked through someone's garden or by colliding into an exceptionally frantic person-running-late, but eventually he'll make it back to his apartment.

He might make a few door-related missteps though. Apologies if he's stepped into your bathroom or out of your bedroom closet.]

[If/when he arrives, Aang is sprawled on the floor, surrounded by freshly emptied tea cups. And the newest one is in his hand, Aang warming it with light Firebending. When he hears the first sign of a visitor...]

[As tiresome as these random bedroom teleportations are, one does still need clothes, right? So it is with a sigh that Billy heads over to his closet to get himself dressed for the day, but it opens before he can even catch the doorknob.

Oh. There is a Robin in his closet.

[And Robin does pay attention. He's on edge when the subject of Starfire is approached, and excited about the space stuff. But then the "Slade"-word happens and NOTHING IS OKAY.]

You said there was a chemical compound? And you're sure it came from that mask? [Because Slade had plenty of chances to drug the hell out of Robin before that -- maybe it was something they just hadn't been testing for. Maybe Terra wasn't the only mole. THIS IS HIS PARANOID FACE, CY. Haven't you missed it?]

[DO YOU KNOW HOW LONG IT TOOK TO GET HERE. D: It's a good thing that Robin's really dedicated to heroing. And Aang. Seriously. What are you doing.]

Have you been drinking all this time?

Most of it! I have to make up for all the time I didn't drink tea that much.

[There's also emptied sugar packets scattered along the floor.]

[Oh good. It's a Billy. That means he's at least in the right building this time. Robin has been jumping around from random place to random place and it's grating his nerves. He'll brush past his impromptu host, half-grumbling his apology.]

Sorry. Experiment. You know how it is.

[Good. At least she'll have kept herself properly entertained while he was having travel adventures. He'll enter through her bedroom door despite his attempt at window-only contact.]

[He paces a slow circle around the mess of porcelain and sugar. If he manages to get behind Aang, there'll be a sudden birdarang hurtling at the hat, hopefully knocking it away without incident. DOES THE EASY WAY WORK? Y/Y?]

[The easy way never works. It's as if the hat has eyes of its own, so Aang can hear the birdarang coming, so he moves to the side just in time.]

Robin! Did you try to attack my hat? You haven't even had your tea yet!

[Wow, he looks pointedly less surprised than Billy. That's... good. Um.

Billy scuffs a hand through his hair, suddenly feeling underdressed in his pajamas, so he grabs a jacket from the open closet and tags along behind Robin. He's not stalking, honest- he's just seen so many foiled escape attempts to want to try helping instead.]

Yeah, I know... done that myself plenty this week. Have you tried the window?

[Quite unlike her usual startlement at his sudden appearances, Katara just turns her head around and motions him in.]

That's okay, I figured it would be a while. How was the mission?

Yeah, man. It's me, remember? I triple checked it to be sure. It was just waiting for the right moment.

[And that feels like an accusation. He is so not impressed.]

[It's not quite an accusation. Yet.]

And what if the right moment was triggerable elsewhere? It could be a compound available in other places as well. If there's a twist in the timeline as you remember it, anything can cause it.

It's just more blackmail.

[But it's always worth trying! It's like a tech guy asking if the computer is plugged in. Sometimes you get lucky.]

It wasn't an attack! I was just. Admiring how sturdy it is. [And if Aang is half as crazy as he sounds, that should be perfectly reasonable.]

[Surprise is for people who haven't been walking into random people's homes for the last almost-an-hour.] I tried a few of them. Some are part of the experiment, some aren't. It's a fifty-fifty shot.

[He doesn't object to the stalking though. How long can you keep up, Billy?]

[Saved by hat flattery indeed.]

Oh. That's fine, and understandable! [He picks up the birdarang fondly with one hand.] I kinda miss things, even if I can barely remember them. [And holds up the cup with the other hand.] Now are you gonna take your tea before I get thirsty again?

I had to play nice this time. I didn't get much in the way of useful information. I even stayed longer to try squeezing something out of them. [He huffs, plopping onto Katara's bed.]

Blackmail? Timelines? You ain't making any sense, man.

[Boy on bed! ACK!

[She inhales to lecture him off that bit of furniture when a little switch clicks in her head--

It's just Robin. He probably hasn't noticed she was a girl for any other purpose than to mark it in his mental notebook to avoid her at certain times of the month.]

[As long as Robin doesn't really backflip out the window or something, he's golden. Billy eyes the doorway to his bedroom dubiously. He's still not public about the whole super powers thing, but this is Robin. He's the last guy anyone would expect to toss the information around.]

Did you, ah- just want me to teleport you to your place? It might work better than chancing the door.

Powers are generally affected during experiments. Have you tried teleporting since it started? [It's not that Robin doesn't trust the offer. It's more that he doesn't trust anything.]

Nothing we didn't already know. I think I might've roughed up some of the Malosso in charge from the last time. I didn't get any time alone to investigate.

[Which is WAY MORE UPSETTING than any weird gender stuff Katara may have been considering.]

If Slade's poisoned me, the catalyst could come from anywhere. [Does he need to draw you a diagram, bro? It would probably look like one of the crazed diagrams already littering his apartment space.]
